- No prices in sight: no menu, or drinks that arrive before anyone says what they cost.
- You're not ordering: your companion or the staff do it for the table.
- The bill and the menu disagree: even by a single zero.
What to do if you're handed a huge bill
- Keep your card: Canada's advice is to avoid handing it to bar or restaurant staff.
- Check it line by line: ask for the menu and name what you didn't order.
- Call 112 and ask for the police: 911 redirects there, and the US report says an English-speaking operator answers 24 hours a day.
- Expect a wait: police response in Tbilisi runs from several minutes to more than an hour, by the same report.
Don't escalate in a room that's turning threatening. Your safety is worth more than the bill, and 112 works just as well from the pavement outside.
